Lofi Girl Graduates After 7 Years of Studying on YouTube
An End of an Era: Lofi Girl Finally Graduates
Lofi Girl — the iconic animated figure behind the popular YouTube livestream “lofi hip hop radio – beats to relax/study to” — has officially graduated after seven continuous years of studying. The beloved character, known for helping millions of people focus and relax with lo-fi beats, marked this major milestone with a heartwarming video shared on TikTok on July 29.
In the video, the character swaps her signature headphones for a graduation cap and holds up a laptop displaying the message “THE END.” A popular audio clip from the Disney Channel show A.N.T. Farm plays in the background:
“Finally, finished with all my homework. I don’t know what I learned, but I’m done learning.”
Fans and Creators Celebrate the Big Moment
The response across social media was overwhelmingly positive. YouTube’s official TikTok account commented,
“girl congratulations and we MEAN THAT.”
Even Duolingo Brazil joined the celebration, writing:
“End of an era,” referencing their own mascot’s dramatic storyline earlier this year.
A 7-Year Journey of Calm, Focus, and Music
Lofi Girl has been a constant companion for students, workers, and chill music fans since she first appeared in March 2018. The animation, inspired by Studio Ghibli, features the girl studying at her desk beside a window with her cat quietly gazing outside.
Despite temporary takedowns in 2020 and 2022 due to copyright claims, YouTube later confirmed the reports were false and reinstated the stream. Throughout it all, Lofi Girl remained at her desk, studying — until now.
From Chill Beats to Internet Icon
The YouTube channel, formerly known as ChilledCow and now called Lofi Girl, has grown to over 15.1 million subscribers, with thousands of listeners tuning in to the 24/7 stream daily.
The character’s popularity has even led to spin-offs, such as a male version featured in the “synthwave radio – beats to chill/game to” livestream.
